3rd Party

The United States has been beholden to a two party system for a long time. Given the meltdown of both the Democrats and the Republicans, an occurrence that has left many moderates feeling ignored and unrepresented due to the pathetic partisanship that essentially defines the two camps. Currently the United States lacks anything resembling a real liberal party, such as the ones you’d find in Europe. What we have are two parties to the right of Center. When center moderates are being called extremists by the far Right, we have issues. So, to that end, I’d like to suggest the formation of a 3rd party. Or rather, I’d like to recommend that we create a party of moderates not currently affiliated with either party for the purpose of drawing in those voters who are disenchanted by current options and with the hopes of bringing back a broader and more nuanced view of our Nation’s politics.

I chose the Shorter Whitman because of his work, "Song of Myself" and because of my self-deprecating sense of humor. I am under no illusion that I can write successful essays or poetry, but I have been known to write them anyway.
