I don’t think it’s an accident that both Peter Thiel and Elon Musk are both responsible for destroying large media empires. They share similar political values, are among the wealthiest people on the planet, and had similar experiences with media companies they could not directly control, and both devised means to solve their problems by leveraging their massive wealth.
Peter used a proxy – Funding Hulk Hogan’s lawsuit, allowing for a war chest that could go toe to toe the Gawker Media empire. Elon simply overpaid for the company and then proceeded to gut it. Both men remain catastrophically rich even after their cash outlays. Thousands of jobs destroyed at the angry whim of fantastically wealthy people.
