Now, I might have to draw the line at an Nsync cover band, but yeah, this tracks. And it’s not just art, either. A lot of professions and areas of study are considered wasteful or ‘useless” by those that don’t understand them, or don’t know how to relate to them for any other purpose than to drive profit for their religion. I think “Women’s studies” is the popular one trotted out by various misogynistic types, but pretty much anything in the humanities, sciences and academic fields is subject to a similar bias.
Philosophy, for all that I despise the actual practice of the field, is responsible for so much of our classical to modern society it can’t be easily encompassed in a single post.
It’s worth knowing what you didn’t know you didn’t know, even if it’s just letting somebody else learn it so you don’t have to.
