I have to say, this election is closer than I thought it would be. Turn out is much higher than normal, but the the spread is closer than I would ever have expected. I realize that some people don’t see president Trump as a fascist, they don’t see his racist comments, the attacks on our Constitution, or the fundamental corruption of our values. They only hear what is said by their news media of choice, automatically assuming that the other side is exactly as it is portrayed. It never occurs to them that it isn’t true or honest. How many people went to the polls believing that Biden is a far left socialist rather than a moderate Republican? How many people chose Trump for exactly who he is? Too many. That is the effect that modern media has had on the average citizen. Because we live in the US, I will accept that as a matter of course, a consequence of the choices made, but I won’t call it democracy. I will not believe that is our legacy. Too many of us have chosen to believe a comfortable lie rather than embrace a painful truth. Whether it be Biden or Trump in the days ahead, I no longer believe that the US is the bastion of freedom and democracy that it once aspired to be. I can only hope that the rest of the world chooses to pick up that mantle. Maybe that is the true legacy of the US. I can only hope.
Month: November 2020
Regardless of the results of the election tonight, I am making the move from Facebook. They willingly and actively profited on the division of the American people, deliberately working to divide us just so they could make a few dollars. Right now I’m moving over to Liker, which may be a better platform. Maybe not, but I’m going to try them out. Hopefully I’ll see you there, or at least on another platform that isn’t purposely working to tear our country apart.
