There’s a lot of posts out there admonishing us not to politicize things – the virus, the economy, etc.

Did you ever stop to really understand what that means? It means, “Don’t speak up for yourself. Don’t advocate for change or improvement. Don’t highlight the good and the bad to your leadership. Don’t participate.”

It’s basically telling you to be quiet and sit in a corner, to take whatever comes to you and don’t do anything about it.

No, not everything needs to be politicized. Whopper vs. Big Mac will never be an issue, and whoever coined the term Freedom Fries could do with a swift kick, but things that matter, that affect you and I, our society and well being?

Yeah, politicize the Hell out of those. Find your voice and use it.

I chose the Shorter Whitman because of his work, "Song of Myself" and because of my self-deprecating sense of humor. I am under no illusion that I can write successful essays or poetry, but I have been known to write them anyway.
