When I was in 1st and 2nd grade we were introduced to Where the Sidewalk Ends, a collection of poems by the very talented Shel Silverstein. 35 years later I learn just how lacking my early grade curriculum was.

Shel Silverstein <-- This guy also happened to write a ton of songs for these guys ---> Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show. And so many others.

Who the heck doesn’t mention that?

I chose the Shorter Whitman because of his work, "Song of Myself" and because of my self-deprecating sense of humor. I am under no illusion that I can write successful essays or poetry, but I have been known to write them anyway.
