At this point we can be sure of two things.
1) The President is not like other Presidents. Yes he is a cheat(as in he cheated on his wives), most probably a crook and very definitely a liar. However, the one thing you can count on him to do is to not act like other Presidents when it comes to actually being one. This includes releasing his tax returns.
2) We will learn nothing new regarding his return(see first point). It’s not like his return will have a line item suddenly confirming anything from Russian interference to the Grassy Knoll. The only thing this does is make the Democrats look petty and vindictive, which in all fairness, many of them are.
So please find a better use of your time. It nothing else, I have some snow that’s needing shoveled, you can practice being a public servant.
If my taxes or health records are not private, then should I comply?
If they are private, is this not corrupt?
It’s a tradition but not one I approve of. What, precisely, are we looking for when viewing a tax return? How much the candidate made? How much they donated? Is there a chart somewhere that determines the appropriate amount for each? I suspect the chart also shows how honest, devout and trustworthy they are as correlations. Bernie Sanders, for example. He is now a millionaire. It took him the better of 70 years, but he got there. Now they are saying he can’t have the views he does because his income is higher. What pathetic, self-serving drivel, and it’s coming from both sides of aisle!
Tax returns tell us virtually nothing of use, even ones as complex as President Trump’s. Now, if we were truly interested in a candidate’s relative trustworthiness, we would submit them for a high level security clearance before allowing their nomination to proceed. Skeletons come out, then.
